Broome

We spent 5 days in Broome, which by the end of our stay I had coined "The Hot Hell". The temperature soared each day to around 34-35 degrees, which I discovered is above my tolerable threshold! As a result we spent a considerable amount of time hanging out in the local, small, air-conditioned shopping centre or (dare I say it) chilling with Ronald. Did you know they have $1 cheeseburgers everyday from 12-1pm! Anywho, despite the heat, Broome is a nice place especially the stunningly aqua water.

Cable Beach is the hot spot for Broome, especially the Camel Rides they do. It was named Cable Beach as back in the 1880's they ran the first communication cables for Australia from there to Java which linked us with Europe for the first time. The sand on Cable beach is mostly white, and incredibly fine almost clay-like when wet. And just like Cape Leveque the stunning water is soo salty, which helps if you want to float around like a Dugong.

Came across this while meandering around the shopping centre... ditto!

This pearl was grown at the Pearl Farm we visited at Cape Leveque. Due to it's incredible quality they are unable to price it as there is nothing even remotely close to its quality anywhere in the world. It is not for sale.

We decided on Saturday to spent the day driving around Broome to check out the sites. It didn't take very long at all! Broome is pretty tiny...  back to the shopping centre I guess....

Interestingly, most of the houses here are fully clad with colourbond - walls, roof, garage.. the whole shebang. We haven't seen this done before. Some houses work, some absolutely do not.

Another of the tourist hot things to do in Broome was to see the only known dinosaur footprints in Australia. They are embedded in rock that are only visible on a low tide. It was pretty mind blowing to see! You could even see the toenail imprint. Apparently a Theropod dinosaur.

Not only was Geoff interested in the dinosaur footprints, but also the surrounding rocks. We stayed to watch the sunset but Geoff, I'm pretty sure, was too busy looking at and photographing every rock.

Undoubtedly the most exciting memory of Broome was having our 20 week scan and seeing our precious little one who is healthy, apparently cheeky and slightly bigger than average. We celebrated the occasion by treating ourselves to a nice dinner in one of Broome's restaurants.

On Tuesday we said goodbye to Broome, and began to make our way South down the West coast.
