DAY 75 - Fri 3 Sept
- "Flat-Out-Doing-Nothing" Geoff so eloquently stated, is our life at the moment.
- Once again nothing interesting to report from today... just organising, cleaning etc...
- We decided we are finally leaving Cairns, 3 nights turned into 5 nights. Early tomorrow morning we are heading to Elim Beach, north of Cooktown (through Hope Vale). Eddie, an elderly aboriginal man, owns land right on the beach and you can camp there for $10 a night. I have been looking forward to this spot as the fishing is meant to be really good and it's not too touristy. We are hoping the road there is OK for the caravan as it's not tarred - I guess we will find out tomorrow! We might stay there for about a week and then do a 4WD camping trip with the tent up to Bathurst Bay for another week or so (weather permitting). This is a very remote area and the road there is not easy... We might not have phone/internet service for a couple of weeks. So, that's our plans at the moment but we are learning to be flexible as many times our plans don't work out the way we think...
DAY 75 - Thurs 2 Sept
- We treated ourselves today to a movie "Tommorrow when the war began". I had read the John Marsden book as a child and absolutely LOVED the series. I still remember them! So was excited to see that it had been made into a movie. Geoff scored it 9/10 and I gave it 6.5/10. The book is ALWAYS better than the movie and the acting (being Australian) was a little sad (Geoff disagrees).
- We had lunch on the Esplanade... nice view hey...
- Then went for a walk along the water to the Marina. Check out the size of this yacht we cameacross (you can compare its mast size to those around it). Geoff just found a website of themassive and extravagantly luxurious yacht... www.kokomo.com.au
I like ice cream very much!
- If you haven't already guessed - WE LOVE CAIRNS!! We totally recommend a holiday here and you would definitely want to hire a car too and do some day trips. There is so much to see and do.
- Mum informed me on the phone late this afternoon that TODAY was actually Thursday NOT Wednesday (as I fully thought it was ALL day).
DAY 73 - Tues 31 Aug
- Today we both worked on the boat... I randomly brought my sewing machine along with us which turned out to be really useful today. I sewed a cover for the front shelf of the boat so we could leave our safety gear in there when it's on the roof of the car... can you spot oompa lomba in the background of one of these photos?
- Whilst I was enjoying my sewing project, Geoff was putting in clips to hold the oars, the gaf, fishing rod holders, and the boondy stick (to wack crocs if need be or your husband)...
- Hopefully all our stuff wont fall out of the boat whilst its on the roof of the car when driving!
DAY 72 - Mon 30 Aug
- Raining again today. Nothing interesting to report really. Just shopping, cleaning, washing...
- When we left Cape Tribulation (Daintree rainforest) yesterday we went over a creek crossing where the water was rushing over the bridge. It was not even 1 foot deep so it wasn't a problem for the car or caravan. We found out that a day later a mini bus was washed off the road and a car was flipped onto its roof crossing the same creek. It had risen with further rain to 700mm deep and was still rushing quickly. God's timing and direction was perfect in us leaving on Sunday! There is only one road in and one road out for a caravan so we could have been stuck there for awhile.
