DAY 98 - 103 (Cairns Still)

DAY 103 - Thurs 30 Sept

Our motivational level right now is running at about minus 3. We are not doing much at all - swimming in pool (surrounded by dozens of hyper kids), reading books, eating, checking our blog to see if anyone comments, eating, waiting for the phone to ring, looking at the weather online, ringing (and possibly annoying) our families, eating, walking (although not very far as its too hot and we can't be bothered), pesting each other and asking excessively "what do you want to do?"... "i dunno, eat?"....

DAY 102 - Weds 29 Sept

We decided to put the caravan in the local Cairns paper for this Saturday and also in the trading post. So we booked another 5 nights here. We'll wait until after the weekend and see what happens. We are believing and trusting God to sell the caravan, hopefully soon, but also knowing that his timing is perfect.

DAY 101 - Tues 28 Sept

Im afraid we have experienced the darker side of Cairns today. After breakfast, we noticed the drivers door was wide open. We both hadn't been in the car at all so went over to investigate and to our shock discovered our car had been broken into and totally ransacked...

Absolutely everything in the car had been pulled out and gone through. We were SO SO relieved to learn they had only stolen our older small camera and our coin jar that only had some loose change in it. There was so many things in the car that they could have stolen - all our fishing rods and fishing gear, Geoff's good sunglasses etc. Praise God though that all of our most valuable items (wallets, laptop, good camera) was in the caravan with us. Unfortunately another families car was also broken into and she lost her handbag. Our car was parked right next to our van too, which is a little unnerving... I did not hear them this time. We think we must of left the car unlocked as there was no damage to suggest breaking in... The park managers called the police...

The police then called in a crime scene detective to fingerprint our car...

  • They found some OK prints on the gas bottle we had in the car that had also been moved around.
  • Finally at 6pm, the police had finished with our car (after spending a lot of the day waiting) and we packed up and left the First City Caravilla. We longer felt safe there after having two incidents and the police confirmed it was not a good area. So we moved to the Cairns Coconut Resort which they assured us was one of the best in town for crime rates.
  • It was not a good day today. We both felt really unsettled and not sure where we should go and felt flat that we still haven't had a single call for selling the caravan.

DAY 100 - Mon 27 Sept

We had an Arts 'n Crafts day today. It was surprizingly really fun and we were happy with the results. We had collected different coloured sand samples at coloured sands on our last camping trip and had also found some old glass bottles washed up on the beach...

Still waiting for a call regarding selling the caravan...

DAY 99 - Sun 26 Sept
  • After google maps gave us the bum steer, we eventually found Freshwater Church. It was super friendly - almost freakishly so, but so great to talk to some younger people.

DAY 98 - Sat 25 Sept
  • Today we just spent the day cleaning up the caravan ready to sell.
  • At lunch time, I did a pizza run on my bike (as the boat on the car wasn't tied on). As I madly peddled my bike driven by an extreme craving for a super supreme pizza, I noticed my front wheel wobbling and I had no gears at all. The wheel of my bike must have been damaged along with Geoff's bike wheel when we got them caught on a tree at Cape Tribulation. And the gears must have been damaged when our 'friend' tried to steal the bikes off the back. The combination of these two things, along with trying to balance a super supreme pizza and two drinks made for an interesting ride home - Geoff was impressed when I made it home with the pizza still hot and intact!
